Ultrasound
General & Musculo-Skeletal Ultrasound.
Dr. K.L was appointed as Consultant Radiologist to St Albans City Hospital & Hemel Hempstead General Hospital in 1995. His special interest is in cross-sectional imaging (e.g. ultrasound, CT and MRI) with particular emphasis on musculo-skeletal, sports injury and trauma Imaging.
He says, "We are all familiar with the use of ultrasound (US) scan for the abdomen, pelvis, thyroid and testes. Less well known, however, is the 'mini revolution' that has taken place in the field of musculo-skeletal Ultrasound (MSS US) over the past few years. With the latest machines, practically every 'soft tissue' of the musculo-skeletal system can be assessed in great detail from skin down to bone (muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursae, neurovascular bundles as well as the cortical surface of bone itself)."
The great advantage of musculoskeletal ultrasound is the absence of Ionising Radiation (compared to x-ray, CT and isotope scan), and its relative low cost.
Using High Frequency Ultrasound, Dr. K.L. is is able to:
» Determine the aetiology of a "lump" (e.g. ganglion, lipoma, lymph node or neuroma).
» Assess the nature and extent of soft tissue injury (e.g. muscle or tendon tear).
» Diagnose and grade compression neuropathy (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome).
» Apply Colour Doppler to pinpoint areas of inflammation/hyperaemia without the need for IV contrast injection (e.g. localised tenosynovitis).
» Accurately guide needle injections (e.g. subacromial bursa in shoulder) to maximise the therapeutic benefit and avoid accidental intratendinous injection.
Here at the Hertfordshire Clinic, Dr. K.L. has access to the very latest equipment, including the Phillips ATL HDI 5000 SonoCT, and provides a comprehensive ultrasound service including scans of abdomen, testes, thyroid, & 3D Colour Doppler as well as musculo-skeletal scanning (including ultrasound-guided injection/intervention).

Ms. Peck qualified as a Radiographer in 1978 and currently works for East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, leading the ultrasound service at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Welwyn Garden City and carrying out pregnancy and gynaecological scans, including nuchal translucency scans.
Here at the Hertfordshire Clinic, Ms. Peck provides a comprehensive obstetric ultrasound service including dating, nuchal translucency, reassurance, sexing and growth scans. She also provides an abdominal and pelvic scanning service for both adults and children.
