    Consultant and Hon. Senior Lecturer in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

    Dr. Rafik Refaat is a Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Honours Senior Lecturer at the Royal London Hospital, St Bartholomew’s and the Queen Mary’s School of Medicine in London.

    Dr. Refaat is also the consultant and clinical lead for the inpatient Child and Adolescent Service.

    Dr. Fewtrell has been consulting here at the Hertfordshire Clinic since its inception and whilst you would have been notified of his commencement with us, we had probably not given you a proper resume of his interests, which are as follows.

    Dr. Fewtrell qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 1975 at Leeds University. He is registered with the British Psychological Society as a Chartered Psychologist and has considerable experience in clinic training and University teaching.

    He specialises in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), particularly within the field of anxiety, depression, social phobias and panic attacks. CBT is a collaborative approach between the patient and the therapist, which involves changing the patient’s perspective and thinking style, together with practical steps to reduce the level of distress and the learning of better coping mechanisms.

    For the last 16 years, Daniela has worked at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London. She has been a Consultant Clinical Psychologist since 1996 and joint Head of Paediatric Psychology since 2000.

    Daniela offers an assessment, intervention and consultation service to children, young people and their families and professionals involved with their care that aims to promote happy, healthy development and prevent the psychological distress, emotional and behavioural difficulties that are associated with an illness or chronic condition.

    Daniela specialises in psychological adaptation to visible facial difference as a result of congenital conditions such as cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial conditions. She also has extensive experience of general child health and illness related issues and am interested in the ordinary behavioural and developmental “blips” and difficulties that accompany childhood.

    Daniela is actively involved with teaching, training and research and service development and lecture extensively nationally and internationally.

    Dr Alexis Bowers is currently employed by the Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant in Adult Psychiatry and is based in St Albans.  He is an experience psychiatrist who has a special interest in treating depression, anxiety disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar and personality disorders.  He is registered with all the major insurance providers.
